Unfortunately, there are more mass casualty events in the United States and around the globe due to serious accidents or active threat incidents. Citizens are generally the first to arrive on a scene before 911 has been called and professional EMS providers arrive. These critical moments can make the difference between life and death for individuals with critical injuries. This online course trains bystanders how to administer care to others with confidence in a life-threatening situation, where a victim, or victims, may lose their life due to a serious injury.

After taking this course you will be able to:

  • Describe the best techniques for the management of hemorrhaging wounds
  • Understand wound compression and packing using hemosatic agents
  • Learn correct application of elastic bands, both for wound compression and as a tourniquet
  • Learn correct application and when to use a windlass tourniquet
  • Know how to create and apply improvised bandages
  • Understand how community responders and emergency service providers should work together to treat bleeding victims
  • Take steps to maintain personal safety for the public and responders
